During this period, residents will notice the install and monitoring of;

  • ‘Trucks Crossing’ signs, warning motorists & pedestrians of increased heavy vehicle movements in the area.
  • Cycleway chicanes, encouraging cyclists passing alongside the entertainment triangle to take extra care and slow their speed.

The impact on normal activity is minor.

Saturday 04 December 2021 (Event Day)

  • The Hagley Park cycleway will remain obstructed using temporary chicanes to slow cyclists
  • The Botanic Gardens carpark will be affected by event activities. Some bays will be restricted to event-related parking by permit only.
  • Public access to the Botanic Gardens Carpark is restricted to exiting vehicles only from 3.00pm.
  • Parking restrictions will be installed in the following locations;
    • the Northbound shoulder of Rolleston Avenue. A temporary taxi rank and ride-share collection point will operate from this location on event day.
    • the Northbound shoulder of Park Terrace. A temporary public drop off will operate from this location on event day.
    • The Botanic Gardens Carpark, which will be closed from 3.00pm on event day.
  • Traffic slowing measures will be installed in the following locations;
    • for traffic travelling Northbound on Rolleston Avenue, prior to the Armagh Street Pedestrian Crossing.
    • for traffic travelling Southbound on Park Terrace, prior to the Armagh Street intersection
    • for traffic travelling Westbound on Armagh Street, prior to the Park Terrace intersection.
  • Turning restrictions will prevent vehicles;
    • travelling Northbound on Rolleston Avenue from turning right into Armagh Street. Traffic will be continue straight onto Park Terrace.
    • travelling Southbound on Park Terrace Street from turning right into Hagley Park. Traffic will be diverted Left onto Armagh Street or continue straight onto Rolleston Avenue.
    • travelling Westbound on Armagh Street from turning right into Park Terrace. Traffic will be diverted Left onto Rolleston Avenue.
  • The Tramlines are not affected by these measures and services will continue as normal. Some delays are expected through this area during peak arrival times.
  • The Rolleston Avenue bus and coach stops will remain operational, including for event buses.

We’re taking the lead on Sustainable Event practices by weaving sustainable policy into every part of our business. Some of our class-leading event sustainability policies include;


The Festival encourages the use of compostable packaging and the reduction of single use plastics wherever possible. We also provide reusable souvenir Wine Glasses to every patron in attendance, eliminating the need for single use plastic cups.


Our pioneering cup library is a central feature of the Monteith’s Beer Garden, which allows patrons to purchase a polycarbonate cup with their first drink, and reuse that cup throughout the event. They can choose to keep the cups, or return them for a refund at the end of the event. By using this cup library, we’ve prevented an estimated 390,000 single use cups from entering landfill over the course of 3 years. We also provide souvenir festival wine glasses to every patron, which can be taken home as a unique momento of this fantastic occasion!


The high volumes of Glass and Cardboard produced at these events further contributes to the volume of recycling our event diverts from landfill. With on-site sorting, we can ensure that the recyclable materials we send to EcoSort are accurately separated so they are never rejected.


Immediately following the event, and for most of Sunday 08 December, our volunteer teams will be out in force clearing litter from the venue, the perimeter, our streetscapes and the wider Hagley Park.[/vc_column_text][/vc_accordion_tab][vc_accordion_tab title=”Security”][vc_column_text]


Security team members are strategically located around the Festival venue both during and following the conclusion of the event – particularly in areas of Hagley Park, Armagh St, Park Terrace and Rolleston Avenue, among others. Their key roles are to prevent unauthorised access to the venue, but also providing an active, visible deterrent to unwanted anti-social behaviours.[/vc_column_text][/vc_accordion_tab][vc_accordion_tab title=”Sound Checks”][vc_column_text]


The event will produced amplified music for up to two hours between the period 5.00pm – 7.00pm on Friday 3rd December for the purposes of calibrating audio equipment and checking production levels for various musicians.


The event does not intend to, but may at times be required to produce amplified audio for a period not starting before 10.00am and ending by 11.00am for the purpose of calibrating audio equipment and checking production levels for musicians who were unable to check on the Friday evening. Any audio produced prior to 11.00am on Saturday Morning will be tested at reduced levels so as not to unduly affect the quiet enjoyment for our neighbours.[/vc_column_text][/vc_accordion_tab][vc_accordion_tab title=”Entertainment Schedule”][vc_column_text]The full 2021 schedule will be available soon. Please check back here for updates.[/vc_column_text][/vc_accordion_tab][vc_accordion_tab title=”Noise Monitoring”][vc_column_text]The South Island Wine & Food Festival is committed to ensuring it’s production of amplified audio is within reasonable limits as set out in the Christchurch City Plan. While we expect our event to have some impact on the quiet enjoyment of our city by its residents, we also acknowledge the importance of providing an engaging and vibrant cultural landscape to be enjoyed by people of all ages.

Our efforts to reduce the impact of, and ensure compliance with legislative conditions around the production of amplified audio, we have taken the following steps;

Our live music Stage is positioned as far from residential neighbours as possible, to reduce any effect our audio production can have. It is oriented in such a way that audio is directed away from the nearest residents, who would be most affected.


Sophisticated noise monitoring equipment is utilised throughout the event from the front of house mixing desk to ensure audio production at a close range is within reasonable limits that correspond to our external measurements. Our technologies allow us to respond to specific audio frequencies that have the biggest impact and reduce those without adversely affecting the overall quality of the audio production.


Our team are in constant communication with the Christchurch City Council’s noise monitoring agencies to monitor and respond to increased noise that approaches those limits identified above.[/vc_column_text][/vc_accordion_tab][vc_accordion_tab title=”Access to Park Facilities”][vc_column_text]The South Island Wine & Food Festival is one of Christchurch’s largest exhibition style events. As a result of it’s activities, we regret to advise that access to some Hagley Park facilities may be reduced or restricted during out build, operation and disestablishment periods. Those facilities specifically affected include;


There will be some impact to Lake Victoria. For reasons of health and safety, as well as security of our site, fencing will obstruct access to the eastern edge of the lake for most of the week – especially on Saturday 4th December. Access will be allowed for the Christchurch Model Yacht Club on Wednesday prior to the event as per normal, before being sealed again after they have finished.


Access to the Hagley Park Tennis courts will not be affected by this event. Some entrances will be closed during our activities, and fence coverings will obstruct the view into Hagley Park, however all tennis courts will remain operational both prior to and during the event.


Access to the Botanic Gardens Carpark will be affected by turning restrictions, parking restrictions and increased event traffic on Saturday 4th December. Some bays will be restricted to permit-holders only, and the access-way will be closed and inaccessible from 3.00pm onwards. We suggest avoiding this area if possible.


Cycleways through North Hagley Park will remain open, however some slowing measures are in place alongside the Entertainment Triangle.


The Public BBQ will remain accessible to the Public throughout the event activities.
